History of Golfview Harbour, Boynton Beach
Golfview Harbour is a residential neighborhood located in west-central Boynton Beach, Florida. The community was primarily developed during the residential growth boom that occurred in Palm Beach County during the 1960s and 1970s. Most of the neighborhood's single-family homes were constructed during this period, establishing Golfview Harbour as a middle-class suburban community with convenient access to major transportation corridors and recreational amenities.
One of the defining features of Golfview Harbour is its extensive canal system. The neighborhood was built around waterways that connect to a larger network of freshwater lakes and canals in the Boynton Beach and Lake Ida area. These canals provided residents with opportunities for boating, fishing, kayaking, and other recreational activities directly from many waterfront properties. The community's waterways remain one of its most distinctive characteristics today.
As Boynton Beach expanded during the second half of the twentieth century, Golfview Harbour benefited from its location near Interstate 95, local shopping centers, schools, parks, and beaches. Recreational facilities such as Caloosa Park and Lake Ida West Park became important nearby amenities for residents, offering sports fields, fishing, walking trails, and water access.
Architecturally, the neighborhood reflects common South Florida residential styles of the mid-twentieth century. Most homes are ranch-style residences, although later renovations and redevelopment introduced Mediterranean and contemporary influences. Over time, many properties have been modernized while retaining the neighborhood's original suburban character.
Today, Golfview Harbour is known as an established waterfront community with a mix of longtime residents and newer homeowners. Its combination of canal-front living, proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, and location within Boynton Beach continues to make it a desirable residential area.
